Chinese microprocessor manufacturer MediaTek announced Dimensity 820 SoC. The Assistant General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communications Business Unit, Yenchi Lee informed the world that this is a mid-range gaming-oriented processor that comes with Dual-SIM and 5G network-enabled on both SIM slots.
The mid-range processor Dimensity 820 is the Octa-core processor. Dimensity 820 sports 4-cores of Cortex-A76 that is clocked at up to 2.6GHz. The rest of the 4-cores is Cortex-A55 cores clocked at up to 2GHz. The 820 chipset support maximum of 16GB RAM based on the LPDDR4X module. The SoC also supports H.264, H.256, or HEVC encoding out-of-box.
The Chinese microprocessor added MediaTek APU 3.0, which is Mali-G57 MC5. The combination of CPU and APU brings the ultimate gaming experience and proprietary AI to maximize gaming visual quality. The phone manufacturers can use the Dimensity 820 capabilities to bring ultimate performance on a mid-range Android running phones.
The maximum resolution supported by Dimensity 820 is 2520 x 1080 pixels with a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. Meanwhile, many Chinese phone manufacturers are moving towards a 144Hz refresh rate display, but this is a mid-range gaming processor. MediaTek brought proprietary AI technology to convert SDR content to HDR content. The phone can support enhanced HDR10+ video playback including AI-PQ.
MediaTek’s Imagiq 5.0 technology is in Dimensity 802 SoC that sports quad-camera setup up to 80MP. MediaTek APU 3.0 plays a crucial role in enhancing video output and utilizing the camera for precise AI-camera actions. The camera can shoot videos from the primary camera at 4K video resolution.
The Chinese company informed that they designed sub-6GHz 5G networks for Asia, North America, and Europe. The 5G NR technology brings 5G UltraSave NED (Network Environment Detection) and 5G UltraSave OTA Content Awareness for power-efficiency.
