Huawei unveiled MatePad 10.4 in online event

Huawei introduced a budget-oriented tablet under the label of MatePad 10.4 targeting educational consumers. It runs on Android 10 out-of-box, and it packs HiSilicon Kirin 810 (7nm) processor. The brand offering the tablet starting from $270 price mark and packing modern features, and there are some takeaway that I have mentioned in the article.

Display & Battery: The Huawei MatePad is a 10.4-inches display tablet with the resolution of 2000 x 1200 IPS display. Modern consumers want to experience thinner-bezel display, and the screen covers 81% of the front body. I would have been happy if it covered 80% – 85% or even more because the brand is charging $270+ for the base variant.

The 10.4-inches MatePad is powered by a 7250mAh battery, which is enough to provide hours of on-screen time. Of course, Huawei bundled 18W fast charger brick in the box and it is a Type-C port. Overall, Huawei did a good job of bundling 18W fast chargers in a $300 price bracket.

Focus UI & EMUI: MatePad is focusing on an educational-oriented tablet here and provided functions for consumers, who are purchasing the tablet for educational purposes. Huawei added an education center for students, and college attendees and provided multiple sources including “focus UI” to learn.

MatePad functionality issues a warning when the readers are very close to the display. The special reading mode is present to reduce harmful blue light and creates a monochrome e-paper like environment for longer usage.

All-new EMUI 10.1 added support for multi-window support, so you can watch a video on YouTube while reading the material. The MatePad 10.4 is compatible with Huawei M-Pencil stylus.

Google Services: Huawei made it to headlines after Google had to terminate the contract with the company. In short, MatePad does not support Google Services.

Sound Department: It comes with four large Harman Kardon speakers that produce high-quality sound. No doubt Harman Kardon-tuned speakers will be loud, but we cannot confirm how loud it is, and an in-depth review is needed here. The brand designed the product for educational purpose, and less entertainment-oriented, but we can expect loud and crisp-clear sound production here. Of course, I think that Harman Kardon-tuned speakers will lack bass, but the vocals & mid’s will be decent.

Camera Department: I have one word to describe the camera setup, and it is “below average” for modern standards. But, I think you cannot ask for a triple camera setup under $350 and it is a good deal.

The primary camera sports 8MP with AF technology, while the selfie camera packs 8MP shooter with HDR enabled. You can capture 1080p video in 30fps and no further options are available in video recording in the main camera and front camera.

Huawei offered the product in three configurations. You can order 4GB RAM + 64GB at CNY 1,899 ($270), 6GB RAM + 128GB at CNY 2,199 ($310), and 6GB RAM + 128GB internal storage with LTE connectivity at CNY 2,499 ($350). You can order the product in White and Gray color.

I love hardware combined with software and that’s what mesmerizes me about Windows and Linux operating systems. I do feel like ColorOS is overrated and requires highly optimization for user-friendly interface and I love Samsung phones.
